Taking into account the wealth of research in environmental history carried out in Europe and the United States, this issue of "New Perspectives in Québec Studies" includes three articles which discuss new methods for interpreting a relationship as fundamental as the one between society and the environment. The first two articles provide a survey of works on the environmental history of Québec and the North American east coast. The third article examines the control of forest fires in Québec and the institutions set up by the government to resolve the social and political tensions affecting both access to and the protection of forest resources.
The collection's main objective is to promote wider understanding of scientific knowledge about Québec. Each publication contains the English translations of articles previously published in French in Globe. Revue internationale d'études québécoises.
A collection published in cooperation with Globe. Revue internationale d'études québécoises.
